Anthony Weiner has dropped among Democrats in the mayoral race – and New York Democrats remain split about whether the disgraced Congressman should stay in the mayor’s race, according to a new poll out today.
The NBC 4 New York/Wall Street Journal/Marist Poll found that Democrats only slight favored him continuing his run, 47 to 43 percent. The poll was taken the day after Weiner admitted sending sexually explicit texts and chats after similar behavior forced him to resign from Congress.
The survey also found Weiner’s unfavorability is at its highest levels of the campaign season, and that’s helping Council Speaker Christine Quinn. She is now the frontrunner among Democratic voters, up nine points over Weiner, who still leads Bill Thompson and Bill de Blasio. The poll’s margin of error is 4.2 percent.
Meanwhile, Weiner admitted on Thursday to trading racy messages with as many as three women after he resigned from Congress. He insists his indiscretions have now stopped.
